Objective:To verify the roaming feature of wireless adapter

DETAILS
ATTENTION!! Please follow below information.
1. Please check Error and Warning message in Event Viewer before you start the test case and after you complete the test case, and report it to your team lead, then arrange to open defect, if needed.

2. Perform All Test in Battery Mode (Some of the test items need to perform in AC Mode, follow each Test Case).

3. All Test Activity should be performed with AMT Enabled as Default (applicable on vPro enabled systems).

4. Please check Usability / Cosmetic issues (correct sentence/appropriate display/etc.) and open defect, if needed.

Create Different Wireless Profile using Access Connection
- Profile with WEP key
- Profile without WEP key
- Profiles to connect to various Access Point

  • All the options should be selectable and should work as expected when applying/disconnecting profile
WL Profile-1
  • Create Profile with the network connection type 'Automatic - Use best available Ethernet, Token Ring or Wireless 802.11 network connection
    1. In the Choose network adapter screen
    2. a) Adatper status should be shown correctly
    3. b) All the relevant adapters must be displayed properly
    4. Select the option "automatically use the adapter with the fastest available network connection"
    5. Select both the adapters (wireless and ethernet)
    6. Select the option 'Disable the active adapter or wireless radio when I switch to a different location profile'
    7. In the Edit your wireless Network settings, Click 'Find Network' Button
    8. Confirm all the Access Points & information are shown properly
    9. Select the Access Point Mode
    10. In the WEP type, select 'Enabled-Use static WEP Keys' option
    11. Next page Select 'Enabled 64 bit" option
    12. Type in other details like Key,and WEP key (Contact system administrator for these details)
    13. Complete the remaining pages like Internet setting,Security settings,Program Setup.
    14. Save this Profile.
    • All the adapters are listed for selection and selectable
    • Adapter status and speed shown correctly
    • Access Point information shown properly in Find Network.
    • No error while saving the profile

  • Create Profile with the network connection type 'Automatic - Use best available Ethernet, Token Ring or Wireless 802.11 network connection

    4. Select the option "automatically use the adapter with the fastest available network connection"

  • From the Connection Status Window, Select the WL Profile-1
    1. Connect this profile.
    2. Confirm that the profile is applied correctly
    3. Verify that the profile uses the fastest available network.(ex.if ethernet is 100Mbps and Wireless is 54/11Mbps, then it should connect through ethernet).
    4. Remove the ethernet cable and confirm that the ethernet network is disconnected
    5. Now system should automatically connect to wireless
    6. Connect the network cable again.
    7. Now system should automatically connect to ethernet
    8. Verify the Connection status screen for correct animation status and sound effect.
    • Connectivity should be through the fastest available network and not with the lower speed connectivity.
    • Switching to next fastest available network if ethernet cable is removed
    • Animations should show correctly based on the connection

    Profile Switching w/Fastest available network(with Suspend/Resume)
    1. From the Connection Status Window, Select the WL Profile-1
    2. Connect this profile.
    3. Confirm that the profile is applied correctly and all the informations are shown correctly. WEP should be 64bit only.
    4. Verify that the profile uses the fastest available network.(ex.if ethernet is 100Mbps and Wireless is 54/11Mbps, then it should connect through ethernet).
    5. Suspend the system
    6. Remove the ethernet cable
    7. Resume the system and confirm that the ethernet network is disconnected
    8. Now system should automatically connect to wireless
    9. Verify the basic network connectivity
    10. Suspend the system again
    11. Resume from suspend after one minute
    12. Connect the network cable again.
    13. Now system should automatically connect to ethernet
    14. Repeat steps 1~13 for WL Profile-2
    • Connectivity should be through the fastest available network and not with the lower speed connectivity.
    • Switching to next fastest available network if ethernet cable is removed
    • Connectivity should be automatically switched after suspend/resume

  • From the Connection Status Window, Select the WL Profile-1
    1. Connect this profile.
    2. Confirm that the profile is applied correctly and confirm that the informations are shown correctly. WEP key applied should be 128bit only.
    3. Verify that the profile uses the fastest available network.(ex.if ethernet is 100Mbps and Wireless is 54/11Mbps, then it should connect through ethernet).
    4. Hibernate the system
    5. Remove the ethernet cable
    6. Resume the system and confirm that the ethernet network is disconnected
    7. Now system should automatically connect to wireless
    8. Verify the basic network connectivity
    9. Hibernate the system again
    10. Resume from Hibernation after one minute
    11. Connect the network cable again.
    12. Now system should automatically connect to ethernet
    13. Repeat steps 1~13 for WL profile 2

    1.Create a Wireless lan profile and make sure profile connection successful from the network and sharing center.
    2.Launch Network and sharing center and click 'Manage wireless networks'.
    3.Double click on the profile created -->Click on 'Connection' tab
    4.Click 'Copy this network profile to a USB flash drive' -->Insert the USB flash drive into the system.
    5.Verify that the following message appears 'The Network settings have been copied to your USB flash drive' in the <Computer A>
    6.Click 'View more detailed instructions'
    7.Verify that the document opens with all the details about the wireless network profile like Network name,Network security key/Passphrase and the instruction to add a wireless network using USB flash drive in to the other computer.

    Adding a wireless network in Windows 7 and Win-7 :
    1.Insert the USB flash drive in the <computer B>(windows7 or Win-7).
    2.Auto play dialog box appears-->Click 'Wireless Network setup Wizard'.
    3.Verify that the wireless network setup wizard prompt appears with the following message 'Do you want to add this computer to the wireless network <Wirelessprofilename>' .
    4.Click OK to save the settings and click 'cancel' to not save the wireless network profile.
    5.Verify that the wireless network profile settings are saved in the 'Manage wireless networks' and verify that the profile connection successful.
    6.Verify that the wireless network profile settings like Security type,Ecryption type and make sure the profile connection successful.

    Adding a wireless network in Windows 8:
    1.Insert the USB flash drive in the <computer B>
    2.Click 'Wireless Network setup Wizard' from Network connections.
    3.Verify that the wireless network setup wizard prompt appears with the following message 'Do you want to add this computer to the wireless network <Wirelessprofilename>'
    4.Verify that the wireless network profile settings are saved in the 'Manage wireless networks' and verify that the profile connection successful.
    5.Click OK to save the settings and click 'cancel' to not save the wireless network profile settings.
    6.Verify that the added wireless network profile settings like Security type and Encryption type and make sure the profile connection successful.


    Notes:
    - This feature is available for No WEP,WEP,WPA personal ,WPA2 personal
    - The above procedures should be tested in Windows Zero Config with the other wireless utilities are disabled or uninstalled.
    • Make sure the following prompt appears 'The Network settings have been copied to your USB flash drive' in the <computer A> after the wireless network is copied to the USB flash drive.
    • Make sure the Document opens with all the details about the wireless network profile and the instruction to add a wireless network using USB flash drive into the other computer if click 'View more detailed instructions' in the Copy the wireless network in the USB Flash drive wizard.
    • Make sure the wireless network settings are saved in the machine and the profile connection should be successful.
    • Make sure the security type and encryption type are correct after adding the wirless network through USB flash drive.

    8.Type an administrator password, and then click OK.
    9.Verify that the following message appears 'The Network settings have been copied to your USB flash drive' in the <Computer A>
    10.Click 'View more detailed instructions'
    11.Verify that the document opens with all the details about the wireless network profile like Network name,Network security key/Passphrase and the instruction to add a wireless network using USB flash drive in to the other computer.

    Adding a wireless network in Windows 7 and Win-7 :(Usermode)
    1.Login to User Mode
    2.Insert the USB flash drive in the <computer B>(windows7 or Win-7).
    3.Auto play dialog box appears-->Click 'Wireless Network setup Wizard'.
    4.Verify that the wireless network setup wizard prompt appears with the following message 'Do you want to add this computer to the wireless network <Wirelessprofilename>' .

    5.Verify that the wireless network profile settings are saved in the 'Manage wireless networks' and verify that the profile connection successful.
    6.Click OK to save the settings and click 'cancel' to not save the wireless network profile settings.
    7.Verify that the added wireless network profile settings like Security type and Encryption type and make sure the profile connection successful.

    Notes:
