Objective:To simulate possible usage in user environment and cover all key basic funciton in network area. Also to find the side effect type problem which might occur by every new driver release, this test will be performed all the time in SIV and SIT phase

ATTENTION!! Please follow below information.
1. Please check Error and Warning message in Event Viewer before you start the test case and after you complete the test case, and report it to your team lead, then arrange to open defect, if needed.

2. Perform All Test in Battery Mode (Some of the test items need to perform in AC Mode, follow each Test Case).

3. All Test Activity should be performed with AMT Enabled as Default (applicable on vPro enabled systems).

4. Please check Usability / Cosmetic issues (correct sentence/appropriate display/etc.) and open defect, if needed.

1. Perform entire UST test for all the supported Wireless adapters
Day1 Day time - Driver Installation/Uninstallation
Install Wireless driver as per the build letter
Create Profile using Access Connection and confirm that the profile can be created and WL connection is working fine.
Uninstall Wireless driver as per the build letter
Reinstall Wireless driver and confirm that the profile created earlier is working fine.
Perform overwrite installtion of Wireless driver and confirm that the wireless connection is working fine.
Perform the above steps for all the supported wireless adapters.
Perform Inf and Setup Installation if both are supported

Please note that in some cases, uninstallation/reinstallation of Access Connection may be necessary/
Install Ethernet driver as per the build letter

  • Perform the test as mentioned in the below table
  • Create Profiles using Ethernet, Modem
    1. In the Device Manager->Network adapter->Power Management->select the following options.
    2. "Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby" and also Ensure that the Wake on Setting is set to wake the system for 'Wake on Link'
    3. Create multiple profiles using Wireless adapters with the following options
    4. No WEP, WEP key, LEAP, WPA, 802.1x connecting to different Access Points
    5. In the Location switching menu-> select 'Switch ethernet and wireless profiles automatically"
    6. Set the priority of the Wireless profiles in the following order
    7. WEP key->No WEP key
    8. In the above step, if mulitiple AP's are available, select the profile accordingly
    9. Connect to Ethernet profile
    10. Suspend the system
    11. Remove the Ethernet cable and resume the system from Suspend
    12. Confirm that the Wireless profile mentioned in the location switching is connected
    13. Switch off the AP (or go away from that AP) to connect to the profile that has different AP/WEP settings
    14. Confirm that the profile is connected properly and network is working fine.
    • All profiles should connect to network properly
    • Automatic roaming should take place as mentioned in the roaming list
    • No system malfunction or abnormal behaviour.
    • All the GUI should have correct information and icons.
    Stand alone
  • Now suspend the system again
    1. Dock the system to Docking station
    2. Insert ethernet adapte(PC Card)r in the docking station slot and cable connected to network
    3. Create a profile for the adapter available in the docking station.
    4. Use the global settings option ' Undock the system when a location profile is used that does not use a docking station network adpater"
    5. Apply this profile and confirm that the profile is connected and working properly.
    6. Switch the profile to the wireless profile manually
    7. Confirm that the system is undocked automatically when this switching occurs.
    8. Now take the system away from the docking station and confirm that the profile is connected properly and network is working fine
    9. Suspend the system and leave the system for 2 minutes
    10. Insert the ethernet cable and confirm that the system wakes up from suspend
    • All profiles should connect to network properly
    • Automatic roaming should take place as mentioned in the roaming list
    • No system malfunction or abnormal behaviour.
    • All the GUI should have correct information and icons.
    Stand alone
  • Now confirm that the profile switches automatically from wireless to ethernet
    1. Remove the ethernet cable again.
    2. Now profile will be switched back to wireless
    3. Dock the system.
    4. Confirm that the system switches back to ethernet of the docking station adapter.
    5. Verify that all the functions are working fine.
    6. Verify for the GUI and correctness of the information.
    • All profiles should connect to network properly
    • Automatic roaming should take place as mentioned in the roaming list
    • No system malfunction or abnormal behaviour.
    • All the GUI should have correct information and icons.
    Stand alone
    Day-2 (Night time)- Configure Internet
    - Apply Wireless profile and connect to internet
    - Play continuous movie from the trusted website (microsoft.com, ibm.com etc..)
    - confirm that the movie/audio can be played continuously and no system impact
    • No wireless related issues like radio off/on automatically
    • No system performance degradation or system malfunction

    Day-3 - Day time (VTS-NB Narrow band profile)
    • Create following profile in AccessConnection
      LAN : Wireless LAN
      Modem(dial-up) - set automatic connect when this profile is selected
      • Connect Wireless LAN and access to office network
      • Change the profile to Modem
      • Make sure autodial functions properly
      • Suspend the system then wake up, check Modem is disconnected
      • Resume the system then change the profile to LAN
      • Move to the no wireless signal area, then comeback after few minutes.
      • Confirm that the wireless is connected correctly.
  • Create VTS-NB profile in AccessConnection (Dial-up to particular phone number, Atsugi, Yokohama etc.) VTS account is available at least one in each test site. In case Yamato, Lenovo engineer has one, please ask them.
    • Dial-up one access point of VTS-NB
    • Make sure the connection
    • While connected change the AccessConnecion profile to Wireless
    • Make sure Wireless connection is ready and VTS-NB was logged out
    • While connected Wireless, change the AccessConnection profile to VTS-NB
    • Make sure Dial-up will be performed automatically, then connection is successful
  • Day-3 - Night time
    Application Stress Test

    CD drive (Network) sharing

    - Share the VCD/MPEG samples in a network drive (another system)
    - Play the Video CD/MPEG1,2 files from the shared network drive

    MS Office (Latest version) - Network installation

    - Install MS Office 2000 from shared network drive or from server
    - Open the Office 2000 application (Word / Excel).
    - Save the file directly to the server location
    - Insert the 1GB Micro drive
    - Copy contents from network drive to the flash card

    Lotus Notes- Database Replication
    - Install Lotus Notes domino
    - Play Video files fom the DVD drive
    - Connect to Mail sever and office network
    - Replicate notes database to your local system while Video is playing
    Stand alone

    Day-4- Day time - Integration with all devices
    - Connect to Office network via Wireless using Access connection profile
    - Map shared network directory and transfer files.
    - While transferring files, send a fax using modem
    - Power ON WWAN device
    - Simultanously search WWAN tower and connect

    - Connect to Office network via Wireless using Access connection profile

    Install Harddisk active protection driver
    From task tray, click the hard disk icon to invoke IBM Haddrive Protection system properties tab
    - Click Enable hard active protection system option
    - Click 'Temporarily disable hard drive active protection system while a repetitive vibration (such as that experienced when in a train or automobile) is detected
    - Select Show harddrive active protection icon on the system tray and
    Play sound when hard drive is spinning up or down.

    1. Connect to Office network via Wireless using Access connection profile
    2. Shake the system manually well to confirm that the Hard disk spinning process
    3. Confirm that the wireless still works fine.
    4. Map shared network directory and transfer files of more than 300MB file size (single file size)
    5. Confirm that the network is working fine and system is stable in that condition.

    Perform step 1-5 for all the wireless adapter and ethernet adapter also.

    7. Suspend the system and Dock the system to Supported Docking Station or Port replicator as applicable.
    8. Connect Ethernet Cable to Ethernet Port in Docking Station /Port Replicator.
    9. Resume from Suspend Mode.
    10. Access Connection shall resume connection to Ethernet profile automatically and IP Address shall be assigned.

    Business User Switching Scenario
  • Apply VPN (IGN /VTS) profile
    1. Connect to Internet and Check connectivity.
    2. Connect to IBM network and Connect to Notesserver DB.
    3. Switch to WPA-TLS Profile
    4. Connect to Corporate File server and Copy the shared files to local system (300 MB)
    5. After File copying is finishd, Hibernate the system.

    9. Check Wireless Association / Authentication / Connection is established.

  • Apply LEAP Profile of Campus Network.
  • Check Profile is Associated ,Authenticated and Network Connection is established.
  • Suspend the System by Lid Close.
  • Take the system another room where Campus LEAP Access point is available.
  • Resume the system by opening LID.
  • Check Access Connection resumes connection with the same Wireless Profile , which was used before Suspend Operation.

    User Scenario Test -1
    1. Log in as Administrator and create LAN profile for wired connection using DHCP.
    2. Select disconnect from network when I switch to a different location profile.
    3. Create/apply wireless connection using DHCP and select disable wireless radio when I switch to a different location profile (the location profiles are seperate ones and not autoswitching).
    4. Verify that wired LAN connection is disabled and IP address released when switching to wireless connection.
    5. Verify that wireless connection is disabled and IP address is released when switching back to wired LAN connection.
    6. Create standard user account
    7. Logoff Administrator and login as the standard user
    8. Apply wired LAN profile, verify that IP address is assigned by DHCP server
    9. Select wireless profile and connect, verify that IP address is assigned
    10. run ipconfig /all, wired LAN connection will show IP 0.0.0.0
    11. Apply wired LAN connection without manually disconnecting from wireless connection, verify that IP for wired LAN is assigned

    - Install Access Coonection and latest WL Driver.
    - Create a multiadapter profile in AC with Ethernet as first priority
    For Wireless settings, select the below settings-
    - Enter the SSID name
    - Select"Enabled-Use 802.1x-EAP CISCO(LEAP)
    - Select "Manual Prompt for LEAP User name and Password"
    - Select "No Network Connection unless User is logged in".
    - Save this profile ---this is the only profile on the system.
    - Restart the system system with the ethernet cable plugged into the
    system.
    - AC connects to the network using the ethernet card.
    - Check that the network works fine.
    - Now, remove the ethernet cable out of the system.
    - Confirm that the WL profile is connected successfully.

    1. Make sure that Windows XP MS WPA Patch Q834565 is installed in the test system (This patch is already available with XP-SP2. This is applicable for SP1 or lower).
    2. Connect the System to Wndows 2003 / Windows 2000 Domain Network by ethernet
    3. Register the Wireless Client as Domain Member of Windows 2003 /Windows 2000 Domain
    4. Add the Domain User to the Local Administrator group.
    5. Log in as the Domain user.
    6. Download Root Certificate using Internet Explorer or Microsoft Management Console from Certification Server in Windows 2003/ Windows 2000 Domain. (For ex: 192.168.21.1 /certsrv)
    7. After Certificate is successfully downloaded, from Internet Explorer, Click Tools>Internet options>content>certificates>Trusted Root Certificate Authorities and verify the downloaded certificate is listed.

    • The Root Certificate shall be successfully downloaded

    PEAP-MSCHAPV2 Verification
    Using Access Connection with Zero Config in Windows XP
    1. Ensure Root certificate is installed
    2. Launch Access Connection application.
    3. Assign Name as PEAP-MSCHAP-WZCFG , Choose the Network connection type as 'Wireless LAN (802.11)" , Choose the option Capture Current system settings to create this Profile and Click Next
    4. Select the Wireless Adapter and select 'Disable only the wireless Radio when I switch to a different location profile'
    5. In `Edit Your Wireless Network Settings` screen , Type the SSID Name (For Ex.: PEAP-AP1). Set the following settings :-Connection Type :- Access Point and Wireless Mode : Auto (If applicable), In the WEP Type, Choose the option `Enabled - Use IEEE 802.1x Authentication` and Click Next
    6. In `Edit Your Wireless Network Settings` Screen , Choose the Option Use Windows Configure Wireless Authentication Settings.
    7. Click Authentication Properties. Now there will be a `Window as Authentication properties` from OS
    8. Click Add and Enter the Name of SSID (For Ex.: PEAP-AP1) . Ensure the option Data Encryption (WEP Enabled) and `The Key is provided for me automatically is selected`.
    9. If WPA PATCH is installed the following option shall be enabled:- Access Point Authentication : Open Data Encryption : WEP
    10. Now Click Authentication Tab and Check the following options:- Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication for this Network EAP Type : Protected EAP (PEAP)
    11. Uncheck the option `Authenticate as computer when computer information is available`.
    12. Click `Validate Server certificate` option and `Connect to these servers`. Enter the Server Name in `Connect to these servers` option.(For Example : Wifisvr.wifi.com)
    13. Select the correct Root Certificate of the Test Server in `Trusted Root Certification Authorities`
    14. Select the Authentication Method `Secured Password` (EAP-MSCHAP-V2).
    15. Check Enable Reconnect option and Click Configure button and uncheck the option `Automatically use my Windows Logon Name and Password (and Domain Name if any)
    16. Now 802.1x Authentication process starts and there will be a message box from OS and Enter the User Name,password and Domain name.
    17. Open Network connections tab from Control Panel and view the Authentication Status Message displayed over the Wireless Network Connection like Attempting to authenticate /Authentication Succeeded.
    18. Now the Authentication is succeeded and IP Address is assigned to the client system
    19. Verify IP Address is assigned by the DHCP Server after Authentication is successfull
    20. Check Network Connectivity by issuing Ping Command.
    21. Check the Event Log of Radius Server and Authentication is successfull. Verify the EAP Type is shown as PEAP and Correct MAC Address of the Wireless Client system is shown in the Eventlog
    22. Check the Access Point Event Log and Authentication is successfull.
    • Mutual Authentication of Server-Client and Client - Server shall happen
    • No Error Message related to authentication failure shall occur.
    • IP Address shall be assigned by DHCP Server
    • Network Connectivity shall be available

    PEAP-MSCHAPV2 Authentication Verification
    Using Access Connection
    `With the option Validate Server Certificate Checked and the Server details are entered`
    1. Launch Access Connection application. Now Connection Wizard.
    2. Assign Name as PEAP-CHAP-MH , Choose the Network connection type as 'Wireless LAN (802.11)" , Choose the option Capture Current system settings to create this Profile and Click Next
    3. Select the Wireless Adapter and select 'Disable only the wireless Radio when I switch to a different location profile'
    4. In `Edit Your Wireless Network Settings` screen , Type the SSID Name (For Ex.: PEAP-AP1). Set the following settings :-Connection Type :- Access Point and Wireless Mode : Auto (If applicable), In the WEP Type, Choose the option `Enabled - Use IEEE 802.1x Authentication` and Click Next
    5. In `Edit Your Wireless Network Settings` Screen , Choose the Option `Use Access Connections to Configure wireless authentication settings
    6. In `Enter your IEEE 802.1x Settings, Choose the following options:- Access Point Authentication : Open Data Encryption : WEP EAP Type : PEAP
    7. Enter the Roaming Identity (For Example: xxxxxx@wifi.com /xxxxxx)
    8. In the Tunneled Authentication Select,MS-CHAP-V2
    9. Click the option `Etner User Credentials`.
    10. Choose the option `Use Saved user Name and password`, Enter the credentials and Click `Ok`
    11. Select Validate Server Certificate and Select the Certificate Issuer Name (For Example : WIFI)
    12. Choose the option Server Name Must match Exactly or Domain Name must end in specified name and type the Server Name (For example : wifisvr.wifi.com)
    13. Click Next , Save and Apply the profile
    14. Verify IP Address is assigned by the DHCP Server after Authentication is successfull
    15. Check Network Connectivity by issuing Ping Command to Server
    16. Check the Event Log of Radius Server and Authentication is successfull. Verify the EAP Type is shown as PEAP and Correct MAC Address of the Wireless Client system is shown in the Eventlog
    17. Check the Access Point Event Log and Authentication is successfull.
    • Mutual Authentication of Server-Client and Client - Server shall happen

    7. Uncheck the box `Validate Server Certificate` option and Leave to the Default option of `Use Any Certificate Authority`
    8. Do Not enter any Server name or Domain Name. (For example : wifisvr.wifi.com)

    4. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL.

    6. Make VOIP/Internet based calls via Skype or Windows Live.
    7. Close the lid to enter S3.
    8. Open the lid to resume from S3.
    9. Repeat procedure 3.
