Objective:To verify the Web browser and communication functions available in Pre-Desktop area.
CRITERIA
All the functions should work as expected.
No system malfunction or side effect.

DETAILS
ATTENTION!! Please follow below information.
1. Please check Error and Warning message in Event Viewer before you start the test case and after you complete the test case, and report it to your team lead, then arrange to open defect, if needed.

2. Perform All Test in Battery Mode (Some of the test items need to perform in AC Mode, follow each Test Case).

3. All Test Activity should be performed with AMT Enabled as Default (applicable on vPro enabled systems).

4. Please check Usability / Cosmetic issues (correct sentence/appropriate display/etc.) and open defect, if needed.

Known Limitations :

1. Communicating over the network requires access to the internet through a wired ethernet connection

2. Wireless and Dial-up connections are not supported in the Rescue and Recovery workspace.

While selecting each of the test item below, it may prompt for user password. Please enter your Windows user account password

  3. On Thinkpad Logo press F11 to enter Rescue and Recovery window.
  4. Confirm that the Pre-Desktop area is launched
  5. Click continue to accept the license agreement then click launch

* System would not be able to connect to the network if Ethernet cable is attached after entering PDA
Note:
1. For Windows 7 OS, before pressing F11 and entering Rescue and Recovery window, go to Lenovo ThinkVantage Tools --> Enhanced Backup and Restore --> INSTALL.

2. Rescue and Recovery Setup will run and after the installation is complete, restart the system and proceed to enter Rescue and Recovery window through F11.
  • No error on while Rescue and Recovery screen is launched
  • Under Communicate -> Select Communication Overview
    1. This will launch the functionalities help that is available for communication items like Browser, file download and network drive map.
    • All items under communication, should be selectable.
    Browser Function [UR-1907[
  • Under Communicate -> Click Open Browser function
    1. It will connect to the Internet (IBM download website).
    2. Download files from this website
    3. Downloaded files will be automatically saved in C:\SWSHARE\

    File Download (Vista / 7)
    1. Recover Preload image
    2. Open Pre-desktop Environment and connect to the internet.
    3. Download a file from the website.
    4. Upon the downloading, the browser should prompt the user to specify the location of where the file should be saved.
    5. Verify that the default folder should be C:\SWSHARE
    6. Verify functionalities like create new folder and other functions is working fine.
    7. Verify also that the file is saved in the specified location

    File Download (XP)
    1. Click Download files option
    2. It will open the browser and automatically take the user to the URL of multiple file download location
    3. Enter the system model number and Operating system to download the latest files
    4. Download any driver files and save the downloaded file
    5. It will be saved in C:\SWSHARE directory.
    6. Verify that the files are downloaded properly

    1. Open some web based E-mail (like hotmail, yahoo)
    2. Create an web based user account and use that account using this option
    3. Verify that the all the functions of internet and web based email can be accessed without any problem

  • Browser Bookmark Access
    1. This enables users to use nookmarks that were previuosly identified as favorites in Windows environment.
    2. In the Browser menu bar, click bookmarks.
    3. Select the user account that contains the bookmarked favorite that you want to view.
    4. Click the favorite bookmark that you want to view.
  • Note : If no bookmarks are identified in the Windows environment, a list of suggested websties is provided by IBM.
    • No error while accessing browser bookmark

    1. Rewind: quickly access the last page you visited on a server, if you have left the server or the first page you visited on a server
    2. Back: navigates to the previous page
    3. Forward: navigates to the page you were on before you clicked the Back button

    5. Reload: refreshes the content of the current page (if any)
    6. Stop: stops loading the current page

    • Make sure the files are downloaded without any error messages

    Mapping a network drive :
    1. To access files from or save files to a remote drive, we may need to map drive
    2. To map a network drive, do the following
    3. Click Map Network Drive in the Rescue and Recovery menu,
    4. Map network drvier window opens
    5. in the Path field, type the path to the network drive (in the following format)
    6. \\server name\path to folder
    7. In the username field, type the username or gourp name required to access the drive. This information is required only for network drives with restricted access.
    8. In the Password field, type the password required to access the drive. This information is required only for network drives with restricted access.
    9. Click OK.
    10. Confirm that the network drive is mapped and files can be accessed from the mapped drive.
    • No error while mapping the drive.
    • No system malfunction
    • Successful file download from the mapped drive.
