Introduction

Intel Smart Connect Technology is a feature of the platform in which the software on the platform and combination of NIC (WLAN/WWAN) features provides content updates during periods of PC in-activity. Power Manager is GUI to configure Intel Smart Connect Technology settings.

Intel Smart Connect Technology consist of 2 major features: Instant Internet and Always Updated. “Instant Internet” and NetDetect enables the NIC to scan for networks when system is in S3/S4 state. Internet can be instantly available after S3/S4 resumes. “Always Updated” periodically wakes the system , connects to the network, and updates relevant apps (e.g. Outlook, LiveMail). Since “Always Updated” impacts battery hour during sleep state, Power Manager utilizes only “Instant Internet” feature for better system responsiveness.

ATTENTION!! Please follow below information.
1. Please check Error and Warning message in Event Viewer before you start the test case and after you complete the test case, and report it to your team lead, then arrange to open defect, if needed.

2. Perform All Test in Battery Mode (Some of the test items need to perform in AC Mode, follow each Test Case).

3. All Test Activity should be performed with AMT Enabled as Default (applicable on vPro enabled systems).

4. Please check Usability / Cosmetic issues (correct sentence/appropriate display/etc.) and open defect, if needed.

(Applicable to Chief River Products only.. BIOS support is needed).

Note :

For iSCT to work, following are mandatory.

- iSCT supported BIOS for each product

- iSCT supported driver for the adapters.

=> Currently following WWAN adapter is supported. For WLAN adapters, driver is not yet released.

- iSCT supported Power Manager.

NOTE: ENABLE INSTANT INTERNET IS NOT AVAILABLE IF THE ADAPTER IS NOT SUPPORTED.

Supported adapters :

Intel Smart Connect Technology of Intel requirement is as fllows:

WWAN(3G) NIC with L2/L3 connectivity in S3 inf WWAN supported

WLAN NIC with NetDetect (Intel adapters only)

Ensure that Intel adapter is installed and configured properly.

Install latest version of Power Manager

In Power Manager->Global Settings->Confirm the option is NOT CHECKED ' Enable Insant Internet' (This option will not be seen if the adapter does not support Quick Connect feature).

Connect to access point

Run ping to the gateway.. confirm ping is running without any issues

Go to S3 and wait for one minute

Resume from S3

Confirm that the ping runs continously without any delay and connectivity to the AP (measure the connectivity time).

In Power Manager->Global Settings->Now CHECK THE BOX ' Enable Insant Internet'

Connect to access point

Run ping to the gateway.. confirm ping is running without any issues

Go to S3 and wait for one minute

Resume from S3

Confirm that the ping runs continously without any delay and connectivity to the AP is very quick (measure the connectivity time).

>> Criteria : Quick ON value should be 2 seconds or less than the Quick connect OFF state value (less than 5 seconds).

For Wireless, This should be checked in the following condition and data to be mentioned in the test report.

- Before Suspend - Profile connected in Channel-1

- Resume from Suspend - Same Channel

- Measure the value

>> Criteria : Quick ON value should be 2 seconds or less than the Quick connect OFF state value (less than 5 seconds)..

- Before Suspend - Profile connected in Channel-1

- Change the AP channel to 6 or 11 or 12/13

- Resume from Suspend - Automatic connection to the new Channel

- Measure the value

>> Criteria : Quick ON value should be 2 seconds or less than the Quick connect OFF state value (less than 5 seconds)..

Set Access Connections "debugLevel" registry is set to "1".

Run ping to the gateway.. confirm ping is running without any issues

Go to S3 and wait for one minute

Resume from S3.

Confirm that the ping runs continously without any delay and connectivity to the service provider (measure the connectivity time).

In Power Manager->Global Settings->Now CHECK THE BOX ' Enable Insant Internet'

Connect to service provider

Run ping to the gateway.. confirm ping is running without any issues

Go to S3 and wait for one minute

Resume from S3

Confirm that the ping runs continously without any delay and connectivity to the service provider is very quick (measure the connectivity time).

This should be comparatively better than the previous one.

Confirm WWAN connectivity before starting the test

Procedure DISABLE Instant Internet in Power Manager.

1. Delete AC log file if available

2. Enable AC logging [in Access Connections \.........]

3. Enable auto-connect to WWAN network in AC GUI.

4. Suspend the system.

5. Resume after one minute.

Ensure that WWAN is connected successfully.

6. Note down the timing of the following value using AC log file.

[A] - Resume: noted manually by synching the time of another system to the time of the test system.

[B] - AC Ready: time in AC logs where CResumeHandler::thMainProc():Exit is logged

[C] - Connection Attempt: time in AC logs where AcWanAdapter::SetWanSettings Entry is logged

[D] - Connection Success/Failed: time in AC logs where ConnectAdptSettings: SetWanSettings returned is logged in AC logfile

==> This text is logged after SDK API to connect returns. The timing indicates when data link layer is established with the network.

IP address Assigned to WWAN: time in AC logs where CAcIPMgr:ACIPMgriNotifyAllCallbacks: Notifying IP notification event AC_IP_ADDR_VALID for xxx is logged in AC logfile where xxx is WWAN adapter decsription as shown in device manager.

==> This timing inidcates when IP address is assigned to WWAN adapter and yuser can start using internet on his system.

ENABLE Instant Internet in Power Manager.

Criteria The value A ->C should not be more than 45 seconds. The Value A -> D should not be more than 25 seconds.

If this value is more than 25 seconds, then defect should be opened to Windchill.
