CONFIGURATION
REFERENCE PROCEDURE

You can configure a wireless connection and Airplane mode using one of the following options.

From the Charms Bar

Move the mouse cursor to the upper right corner of the screen until the Charms Bar appears.

Select Settings and then select WiFi.

You can turn on or off Airplane mode by sliding the switch to left or right.

The new Windows 8 network settings allow you to turn individual radios on and off (Wi-Fi, mobile broadband, or Bluetooth),

as well as disable all radios at once with the new “airplane mode.”

You can select a wireless connection and enter required password if any.

For example, I use a Verizon’s MiFi Mobile Hotspot device for Internet connection while on travel.

Select the wireless network connection, and click on Connect. Enter the password.

You should be good to go with the wireless connection.

DETAILS
ATTENTION!! Please follow below information.
1. Please check Error and Warning message in Event Viewer before you start the test case and after you complete the test case, and report it to your team lead, then arrange to open defect, if needed.

2. Perform All Test in Battery Mode (Some of the test items need to perform in AC Mode, follow each Test Case).

3. All Test Activity should be performed with AMT Enabled as Default (applicable on vPro enabled systems).

4. Please check Usability / Cosmetic issues (correct sentence/appropriate display/etc.) and open defect, if needed.

Known Limitations

1. Turn Global Switch ON while WWAN profile connected, WWAN will disconnect and show OFF, then turn Global Switch OFF, WWAN radio still OFF.

This has been approved as Permanent Limitation since User impact is low. User can manually turn WWAN radio ON when this issue occurs.

Ref. Defect: ECR138958, W8: Ericsson WWAN Radio Keep Off When Turn ON Global Switch

2."Insert SIM card" will show when WWAN radio OFF & ON.for Intel-Sierra EM7345 WWAN

Ref.Defect: ECR193295 WL1:W8:EM7345:"Insert a SIM" shown after Turn On WAN Radio.

3.GPS radio not available under Airplane mode (PC settings) in Windows 8.1 for Intel-Sierra EM7345 WWAN.

Ref.Defect:ECR195298,WL1:W8.1:GNSS radio On/Off switch is missing in PC Settings

[UR-3909PA]

4. Intel Sierra GNSS port was disabled for Lenovo Thinkpad Tablets since it will use the onboard GPS and not the Sierra GNSS sensor device.

ECR200736, TRK ECR198983:Intel Sierra EM7345 cannot get GPS sattelite fix

Restriction
Information

1. Airplane Mode for Windows 8.1 is still ON after turn ON any radio (WLAN, WWAN, Bluetooth)

Design has been changed per Microsoft's comments:

"In Win8, if airplane mode is switched on and a radio device is switched on, airplane mode will get turned off. We received lots of feedback that this model was confusing to users. For example, inflight wifi is a growing scenario. When users tried to turn on wifi on the flight, airplane mode would get switched off causing them to wonder whether they were safe or not.

Hence, we came up with a model where all radio switches deferred to airplane mode, and airplane mode deferred to the user. Hence, the user can switch airplane mode and choose to switch on the individual radios while airplane mode is on."

Ref. Defect: ECR181109, W8.1: Airplane mode still on after turn on wireless Radio

2. WWAN radio is disabled after turn ON Airplane Mode in Windows 8.1 [UR-3884AP]

The mobile broadband switch is intentionally disabled in order to prevent the user from turning it on during airplane mode. All other switches can be turned on during airplane mode.

Ref. Defects: ECR185089;ECR185121, W8.1:WWAN radio is gray out when turn on Airplane mode
